I'm all over the place tonight...

First.... I MET MY NIECE! And she's gorgeous. And cuddly. And kind of a chunky monkey. Riley adores her, and loved reading to her this past weekend.  Jamie and Paul came to Richmond. All of their family and extended family and probably a million other people that they know--all want to see the baby. I was so worried that I would have to fight for time with her. But my sister is the absolute best; she let me watch Emily while she went to an appointment. Emily smiled. And made silly noises. And cried. She does NOT like the bottle, and, well, I don't work like that. My mom asked if I wanted her take Emily for a little while. (Um...NO.) It took a few minutes, but it all came back. The bouncing. The swaying. The sleeping baby. She is precious and I can't wait to hold her again in a few weeks!

Obviously by now you've heard, or you haven't because you having been living in a large hole, but The Defense of Marriage Act was officially declared unconstitutional! (How about some trivia? What Supreme Court Case gave the Judicial Branch the power to declare laws unconstitutional?)
I'm not having a political debate with you. Any of you (i.e. my 6 legitimate followers). Because, to me, this simply is a human rights issue, not a political one. I believe this is a good start; let's keep moving forward, America!

Have you heard about this smoking alcohol thing?
I'm trying to figure out a way to
hang this in my classroom.

Again, you must have, or else, damn it, get out of that hole already. While it doesn't scare me as a parent--yet. As a high school teacher, is terrifies me. I truly love my students, but some of them are just stupid enough to try this. I mean, let's be real, at 16 this sounds great to a great number of kids. I just don't even know what to say. Do you?
