Back to School Fun

As both a teacher and a mom, back to school means one of us will inevitably get sick.  To that end, I am reminded of last year...

My baby girl came home early from school throwing up.  Hubby’s working out of town for the remainder of the week.  It was only Tuesday.

Given that I was scheduled to be observed during the last period of the day, my mother was gracious enough to pick the Roo up from school when the clinic called.  Her ride home went something like this…

Roo: My stomach really hurts ever since I ate my Scooby gummies at snack.

Mom: Do you think you are going to throw up?

Roo: (vomiting… pause…and vomiting again) There’s Daphne and the Mystery Machine.  The first one was Shaggy.

So, Riley was sick.  But, on the bright side, she seemed to be doing much better than Daphne and Shaggy.  Swimming in vomit cannot be that much fun.

When picking her up from her grandparents, Riley noted that her neck hurt.  Actually she whined-screamed that her neck “huuuurrrrtssssss!”  Omigosh.  It was then that I realized that I have no idea what the other symptoms of Meningitis are.  And, we live a solid 30-40 minutes from a hospital.  Perhaps we should spend the night at my mother’s?  (Welcome to the mind of a hypochondriac.  It’s a little scary, huh?  Imagine college when I was majoring in psychology...)

Fortunately, one of my real disorders kicks in and I am easily distracted by new checks.  And my brother’s dog.  My brother rescued this “Azawah” or wild African dog one day while living in Sub-Sahara Africa.

(Side Note: My father is convinced that this "wild animal" will kill him in his sleep, weirdo.)
When my brother's Peace Corps assignment changed and meant country relocation, he flew this dog home, and wait, what was I doing?
